The term, “patriarchy,” like the term, “feminist” can illicit strong feelings and/or confusion.

Our challenge in Geographies of Gender was to learn to listen deeply, to challenge our inner assumptions and triggers, and to commit to learning.

The class needed to be a safe space for everyone’s learning to be optimized.

Paying attention to one’s inner responses to terms, concepts, ideas, was encouraged. Journaling in class was a tool used.
